Fans believed that Michelle, 55, got a spray tan while on vacation in California over the last week.
After the Duggar family matriarch shared several photos from the getaway, many took to Reddit to share their theories on her bronzed appearance.
Alongside a selfie of the famous mom with her daughters Jinger, 28, and Jana, 32, one user opened up the discussion.
“What TF happened with Meech’s spray tan? She’s the color of a yam. Did Jana do this?” they joked.
“Are they trying to blend out anemia? Cover jaundice? A tanned season of life? Any theories?”
Others rushed to the comments section to share their own thoughts, one writing: “This is her ‘California’ tan. She wouldn’t want to stand out or anything. Also why she wore those pants (under a skirt of course.)”

“She’s been getting darker progressively since the start of the show. I don’t know if it is self-tanner or if she is going to some kind of tanning salon, but it seems to be her own version of self-care and she has applied it liberally lately,” a second remarked.
A third guessed: “I always wondered that too, since the later seasons of the show she has always been darker. My guess is a fake tanner for face lotion and a foundation that is too dark?”
However, others claimed the tan was “natural” as Michelle joined her kids for a sun-filled vacation in California.
“Maybe she’s spent so much time in the sun that she’s just perma-tanned,” one mentioned.
CALIFORNIA DREAMING
Fans were shocked to see the TLC star abandoning some of her strict rules of modesty while on a West Coast getaway with her kids.
Michelle left her home in Arkansas without her husband Jim Bob, 56, for the excursion, as she flew to visit Jinger for the week.
The Sun exclusively shared photos of Michelle, her daughters, and sons Jason, 21, and James, 20, out in LA.
The group was all smiles as they soaked up the sun and attended church after arriving the night before.
During the outing, Michelle sported black capri pants, a striped black, and white shirt, and sneakers.
The casual look was a stark contrast from the usual long skirts Michelle wears.
The photos soon made their way to Reddit, where Counting On fans admitted to being left in shock that the Duggar matriarch broke Jim Bob’s strict rules by wearing pants.
“Mother wears pants?!?” one asked, while a second recalled: “Is this the same woman who made TLC BLUR HER KNEES?!?”
A third chimed in: “My question, ‘When did Mother buy those pants?'”
Another Reddit user joked that the trip has allowed Michelle to explore different lifestyle choices, writing: “Is this Michelle’s rumspringa?”
Others slammed the busy mom for breaking the rules she once enforced upon her daughters.
One angry fan commented: “What a disgusting excuse for a mother. Just a couple of years ago she had her grown adult daughter crying with guilt over her choice to wear pants. Now mom has to jump on the bandwagon.”
They continued: “Jim Bob and Michelle get hyperactive fomo anytime they may come close to missing out on anything. What garbage ‘beliefs’ to constantly toss them out the window anytime they’re jealous of someone enjoying something they don’t—attending college sporting events, erecting massive Christmas trees, or women wearing stupid capris. The only value they are consistent with is their value of attention and themselves.”
An additional fan wondered if Michelle’s decision to wear pants is a sign that her relationship with Jim Bob is over, writing: “I wonder if Jim Bob is being served right now. Michelle finally found freedom!”
STRICT GUIDELINES
Michelle and her husband Jim Bob lead a restrictive fundamentalist Christian lifestyle as they follow a set of ultra-conservative values.
They don’t believe that women should wear pants, date openly, or use birth control, and they share 20 children.
